Actions are stronger than Words…

Hello Friends,

When I visited my blog tonight to start writing this post, I was shocked that it has been 3 years since my last posting. All I could think was, wow a lot has happened in three years.

I’m re-entering the blogosphere for two reasons: 1) I want to write down all my thoughts on what I’ve learned in life these past three years, so that hopefully the lessons can also help someone else out there. And hey, maybe by reading this you won’t have to learn the hard way. 2) I don’t want to forget what I’ve learned, in order that I can pass along the wisdom to my children someday.

The first lesson that I learned is Actions are Stronger Than Words in this life. When your head, your heart and your gut are at odds with one another, and you feel as though you might be in a twister because you just can’t seem to make sense of another human being, trust in their actions. Their actions will quickly show what priority you take in their life.

I read a wonderful fiction book recently and in the last section of the book, the author has a brief note to readers. Here she states: “All of these decisions illustrate character, because I always think that action is the best way to show character– as in life” (Corrupted by Lisa Scottoline). I wholeheartedly agree.

I’ll leave you with another quote from a famous author on actions:

What you do speaks so loudly I cannot hear what you say.

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Take Away: Make sure your words and actions are consistent and your life will be more authentic and filled with true joy and happiness.

One must arrange one’s life so that everything praises God

As Catholics our entire purpose and goal of living faithfully on earth is to one day attain the beatific vision and celebrate with the angels and saints in Heaven! Right?

Is that what you believe? Then why do we forget that so easily in our daily lives and strive to attain our dream job, our dream wedding, our dream house/ vacation, etc.. Believe me I’m not saying forget about all your dreams and never aspire to anything on this earth, but rather I’m saying let’s stay vigilant and not let those earthly wants and desires rule our world.

One must arrange one’s life so that everything praises God, said St. John Paul II

It is so easy to get caught up in the small picture and sweat the little things 🙂 I’m right there with you and am not perfect by any means so maybe we can help each other remember this!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately because of the current job/living situation in my own life.

Don’t get caught up in the good feelings associated with people telling you that you have the dream job, or look great in that new outfit! DO what makes you happy and pleases God by following his plan! You will not regret that decision.

The fruit of silence is prayer. The fruit of prayer is faith. The fruit of faith is love. The fruit of love is service. The fruit of service is peace. – Mother Teresa

No matter where you are or at what stage you are in your life, you can bear awesome fruit for his kingdom (word among us daily meditation, (7/28/14).

Are we modern Jonah’s?

Do you find yourself running from things initially rather than facing them? If you do, you are not alone.

This is the word of The Lord that came to Jonah, son of Amittai: “Set our for the great city of Nineveh, and preach against it; their wickedness has come up before me. ” But Jonah made ready to flee to Tarsish away from The Lord. He went down to Joppa, found a ship going to Tarsish, paid the fare, and went aboard to journey with them to Tarsish, away from The Lord.” Jonah 1: 1-3

In our modern world we may not hear God’s voice, but we could be running from Him, when we run from making an important life decision, counseling a friend even when it’s hard or some other decision in life.

During this Lent take time to ponder what you are running from and face it head on next time. Do not face it alone though, ask our mother and the saints to help you!

Sometimes it it can be hard to take the narrow path, but taking the hard way now will only lead you to a better future in eternal life!

Remember how the story ended for Jonah and take comfort in knowing God understands our weaknesses and can even bring good out of our failures and shortcomings.

I will leave you with this quote from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI:

“It is not by sidestepping or fleeing from suffering that we are healed, but rather by our capacity for accepting it, maturing through it and finding meaning through union with Christ, who suffered with infinite love.”

Moms’ Night Out in theaters in 2 Months!

In two months Moms’ Night Out will open in theaters nationwide! I’m thrilled to tell you about this film not only because I am currently working on the promotion of the film for work or because I was a set production assistant on the set last summer, but also because this is a great family-friendly comedy that we all need to support in theaters on Mother’s Day weekend!

The directors of this film are Jon and Andy Erwin, the brother directing combo that first brought us October Baby. Jon and Andy started out as ESPN camera guys in Alabama, and have now entered the film making world with Moms’ Night Out being their second feature film.

They truly put their heart and soul in the making of this film, and I can’t wait for the world to see it!

Sarah Drew, the main actress in Moms’ Night Out, said this recently about the film:

I am so honored to be a part of Moms’ Night Out because the film looks into the heart of a mother and sees her for the warrior that she is. This film sees you and honors you. This film is a love letter to you, Mamas, pure and simple, and when you sit down and watch it, you will laugh and you will weep and something deep will release in you.

Bring your husbands. They need to see who you are, and what you do, and how hard and brilliant and beautiful and terrifying and important your job is. Come on! Flood the theaters opening weekend. It will be so good for your souls, I promise. Click here to read more.

Enjoy the trailer and share it with friends!

Gimme Shelter in theaters Jan. 24, 2014!

Have you heard of the film coming out in less than 2 weeks starring Vanessa Hudgens, James Earl Jones, Brendan Fraser and Rosario Dawson?

If not keep reading!

The film is called Gimme Shelter and it is based on a true story of a woman who runs away from a drug-ridden and abusive home to find her father all the while being pregnant. From the encouragement of a Catholic priest, this teenager herself in a pregnancy shelter where she finds her true family.

Vanessa Hudgens completely transformed herself for this role, and does a wonderful job. I was never sure about her acting ability until I saw her in this film. (Yes I have already seen the film! One of the perks for working for Carmel Communications!)

Watch the trailer below and see it for yourself on Jan. 24, 2014!

I’m here for YOU!

I’m back!

it has been awhile since I last blogged but with a lot going on in the fam and with the holidays thrown in there, blogging was the last thing on my mind 🙂 I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and beginning of 2014!

In life we should all continue learning until death. Usually people associate learning with school and the education system, however we should also constantly learn from our family, neighbor, enemy, etc.

I have learned a lot in these past few months from the “school” of life. Although there were many times I thought “why” or “I don’t want to learn it this way,” God had his plan.

In times of trial it is easy to retreat into yourself and think less about others, that is not what God wants. We were made to be in communion with one another, so if you are struggling reach out to someone you trust!

I’m telling you this to help encourage you along the path of life. If you feel sad/ discouraged please trust in God. He will lead you through even if it feels like baby steps. He has a better plan than even we could dream of. Be patient and pray 🙂

Below is one of my favorite quotes from an amazing French priest, Fr. Jacques Philippe:

“Our Lord never permits us to experience a time of trial unless he intends it to bring more abundant graces once it is over” #TimeforGodbook

if you need prayers or a prayer buddy let me know 🙂 we are in this together

Do I have to forgive them?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? If you’re human, you have probably asked that question or a variation of it.

Thankfully with Faith, forgiveness is a part of our daily lives. Without forgiveness, hatred and anger take over and our hearts grow cold and we draw away from God. There is usually a two-fold forgiveness- one, to know God forgives you and another is to forgive one another, and this also includes yourself.

This belief and theme of forgiveness is highlighted in the feature film, October Baby, from the Erwin Brothers. If you have not seen this film, I highly recommend it. The DVD is worth the purchase, and if you want a sneak peak click here!

“…forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

If you’ve been holding grudges or aren’t too good at apologizing, let’s change it. The world needs more love and forgiveness not hatred and ill-will

God Bless,

Kelly

Pope Francis is a Stud (with all respect)!

Picture from where I was standing in St. Peter’s Square before Pope Francis’ Installation Mass | March 19, 2013.

Pope Francis has one of the busiest and most important jobs in the world, yet he still manages to personally call members of his Church 🙂 When was the last time you picked up the phone to chat with a good friend, or better yet to set a time to hangout? I hope the answer is this week, if not think about changing that!

Pope Francis has now called several people! Click here to read the most recent article about this on HuffPost Religion.

And that my friends is how you show love and win hearts of people. Facebook postings, tweets, text messages, etc. are nice occasionally but do not compare to a nice chat with friends and/ or family on the phone or in person.

We are in one of the most technologically dense societies ever, yet has this technology brought humans closer on a friend level?

Make it your goal to spend some quality time with family and friends this week leading into the long weekend celebrating Labor Day. Is there anything better than an intellectually stimulating conversation with loved ones, including God?!

Happy Labor Day everyone!

Trials and God-sends

First of all, I want to encourage those reading this blog to pray for me, and those in my life who all have shared with me their trials that are happening as you read this. Believe me there is a lot of suffering going on in many peoples’ lives. I have to say how my family and friends are dealing with these trials is inspiring to me.

“Our Lord never permits us to experience a time of trial unless he intends it to bring more abundant graces once it is over”

-Word Among Us Meditation, August 2013

I had to share this quote with you, because first I have been reflecting upon it a lot these last few weeks, and second because I have actually sent it to some people via texts because it’s so good, so I also wanted to share it with you.

Personally my family has also had some more-than-usual suffering in the last month, which has lead us all to re-examine the beauty and awesomeness of Faith and life 🙂

Sometimes as humans we don’t miss something until it is gone and taken from us. As Catholics, Christians, Americans, Germans,  Jews, Lutherans, etc. we need to take time each and EVERY day to appreciate and be thankful for what we have. Life is too short to take things/ people for granted! Plus that is just another form of selfishness, which needs to be weeded out.

My challenge to you today: Thank someone out of the blue for something, it can be anything. Thank your significant other for being awesome, thank your child for listening well today, thank your co-worker for being diligent and finishing the task they were assigned, thank a friend for being there for you through the thick and thin, thank God for life 🙂

The God-sends in my life have been my Faith and friends/ family. I have seen their suffering, but not because they were complaining or looking sullen, but rather because they wanted to share with me what was going on in their life. One day we will hopefully see how proud God was of how we handled suffering on this earth.

God Bless yoU!

My new nickname is… Hollywood?!

This summer I got to work on a film set in Alabama. It was the most amazing experience of my life, where I met some awesome friends! The movie is called Moms’ Night Out and is set to release next year- Spring 2014! If you are on Facebook, like the page: http://www.facebook.com/momsnightoutmovie.

I was given the nickname- Hollywood- by coworkers at the marketing/pr firm that I work for full-time because of my 6 week hiatus from the pr world. This time away taught me so much, and prepared me to dive into the promotion of this film.

Stay tuned for more details about the release of the film, as it develops throughout the next year!
